Universal tissue water and edema measurement instrument to assess skin and upper subcutis
  • Highly sensitive measurement of water content and edema in skin and subcutis
  • Totally non-invasive
  • Fast and easy measurement
  • Local measurements on virtually all areas of the body
  • Probes for different measurement depths up to 5 mm

Multiprobe MoistureMeterD is a unique instrument for the measurement of water content in biological tissues. It measures the tissue dielectric constant (TDC) of the skin and subcutaneous tissue non-invasively and locally in a few seconds. The tissue dielectric constant (TDC) is directly proportional to the amount of water in the tissue. The TDC value increases with increasing water content and edema.

EU Customers:

MDD Medical Device Class IIa in EU*: MoistureMeterD is a non-invasive device intended to measure localized tissue dielectric constant (TDC) in edematous conditions of human skin after surgery for breast cancer or gynecological cancers. Applicability ranges from undetectable preclinical edema to advanced edema. The device can be used to aid in forming a clinical judgement of skin edema at any soft tissue site of the body by a health care professional.

USA Customers:

FDA clearance 510(k) in USA*: MoistureMeterD is a device utilizing inter-arm ratios of tissue dielectric constant (TDC) that supports local assessment of tissue water differences between affected and contralateral non-affected arm tissues to aid in forming a clinical judgment of unilateral lymphedema in women. The device is not intended to make diagnosis or predict arm lymphedema.

*The MoistureMeterD is intended to be operated by healthcare professionals in professional health care facilities.

The desktop multiprobe MoistureMeterD model consists of a measuring unit and four probes with effective measurement depths from 0.5 mm to 5.0 mm. The multiprobe MoistureMeterD can be used in all clinical and non-clinical research applications where changes of tissue water may exist.

Tissue edema measurement principle

The MoistureMeterD generates a high frequency, 300 MHz, low power electromagnetic (EM) wave which the tissue is exposed to. The reflected EM wave is registered and the obtained value is a dielectric constant, which is proportional to the water content of the measured tissue. The value increases with increasing water content and edema.
