Transepidermal water loss (TEWL) is a key indicator of the skin barrier function. Accurate measurements of TEWL are important for a wide range of clinical and personal care applications.
  • Short measuring time, typically 10 seconds
  • No horizontally positioned measurement surface needed
  • Wide measurement range - accurate up to 300 g/m²h
  • Ready to use - no daily calibration required
  • Non-sensitive to ambient airflows disturbing reliable measurement

Transepidermal water loss (TEWL) is a key indicator of the skin barrier function. Accurate measurements of TEWL are important for a wide range of clinical and personal care applications.

VapoMeter is extremely practical, wireless and fully portable TEWL meter, and it operates with the closed-chamber measurement principle. Measurements are unaffected by the instrument’s orientation or ambient airflows, and take just a few seconds to perform. Accurate and repeatable results are obtained at both high and low evaporation levels. A range of Franz cell adapters are available for in-vitro studies.

  • Dimensions: 175 mm x 40 mm x 35 mm

Skin TEWL measurement device

The VapoMeter has been widely used in a wide range of clinical studies and you will find several hundred journal articles on our website covering a large number of applications.

You can find independent studies related to VapoMeter in our Publications section.

Closed chamber measurement principle

At the core of the VapoMeter is a humidity sensor mounted in a measurement chamber. The chamber is closed by the skin or other measurement surface during the measurement period and is unaffected by ambient airflows. The sensor monitors the increase of relative humidity (RH) inside the chamber during the measurement phase and the evaporation rate value (g/m²h) is automatically calculated from the RH increase. Ambient temperature and humidity are recorded using an external room sensor.
